Q&A on New Pathways to PR
As a member of CAPIC, I attended a seminar hosted by CAPIC today about the 6 new pathways, and here I am to share what I’ve learned.
Q. I just graduated from school and have submitted PGWP but I’m waiting for my application to be approved. Am I eligible to apply?
A. Yes. As per the eligibility requirements, you need an ‘authorization to work’. You should be on maintained (implied) status, which you get once you apply for a PGWP.
Q. I have work experience for Annex A & B and I am eligible under essential worker. Can I combine work experience from both category?
A. If you apply under essential worker, you CAN combine the work experience from Annex A and B. However, if you fall under healthcare worker, you cannot combine work experience from Annex B.
Q. I worked as a cashier at local dollar store for a year. Am I considered as essential worker?
A. If you have gained 1 year of work experience in the last 3 years on work permit (not including refugee claimant) or have authorization to work, you are eligible to apply as a essential worker.
Q. Are there any fees I should pay when I apply for this program?
A. Yes, you should pay for RPRF (Right of Permanent Residence Fee) and it is $1,040 per person. If you do not qualify, the fee will not be refunded.
Q. What documents should I prepare for the application? What if I can get them in time?
A. IRCC will be releasing a checklist soon. However, if you want to make sure you get ahead of people and prepare the documents which can be time consuming, contact our office today and start your application now. We are here to help you with our professional knowledge and experience. We can guide you through this journey.
Q. Can my lawyer or consultant submit this application on my behalf?
A. No. IRCC has clearly mentioned that the application must be submitted by the applicant. However, getting help from a professional to help you prepare/collect right documents and to review your forms will be extremely helpful. Mistakes can cause misrepresentation or delay.
Q. If I can’t submit application through this program, what else can I do?
A. If you were not able to book your language test on time or have other issues which prevents you from submitting application this time, don’t lose hope. Call our office today. We have some information which can help you to apply for PR in other ways.
